Children are the most important resource to humankind, and education is the cornerstone of protecting this resource. Each child is unique in the development of four domains: physical, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive development. All youth have the right to learn in an atmosphere that is stimulating, safe, and free from discrimination. As an educator, it is my responsibility and duty to help students achieve excellence in all four domains. I aspire to help all students meet their full potential by providing a safe environment that supports the collaboration of ideas and the support of risk-taking. Three fundamentals are essential in establishing such a situation, which begins with the educator as a guide, then allowing each child freedom of inquiry to direct his/her learning, and above all, promote the respect of others and all aspects of life.
An educator must also navigate and facilitate each child’s learning by providing access to information rather than being the primary source of information. An enormous part of acquiring knowledge is the journey taken in seeking, obtaining, and understanding. I have always believed in a pragmatic approach in the advances toward enlightenment. An educator must strive to provide the necessary resources to all children for each child to have a positive academic experience. By providing each child with access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space for each child to explore the materials that reinforce the lesson studied, creates an opportunity for independent discovery, and acquisition of knowledge that fits into the individual schema of each child.
The educational atmosphere for students should embrace the ability of the child to be able to achieve self-discovery. Developing a curriculum that encompassing each child’s aptitude and interests promote intrinsic motivation and stimulate the passion for pursuing knowledge. An instructor must differentiate instruction in the classroom to allow each child to make their meaning of ideas and skills. Consequently, when youth have control in managing the standards within the curriculum, each will be able to navigate personal program plans, diligently complete tasks, and master the skills necessary to fulfill outcomes approved within the curriculum.
Developing children’s love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment will be achieved through the open sharing of ideas and a thoughtful approach to discipline. Moreover, when each child’s voice is heard and valued, all will have a more exceptional ability to express themselves freely. A structured environment is necessary to aid in an unbiased atmosphere for each student; consequently, rules and regulations are put in place to help create a safe and secure workplace for all.
Teaching is a profession that allows me to grow personally and professionally. It is a time for me to reflect on my years in formal education, accept those examples that I have developed from, and reject those examples that did not enhance my learning. As a facilitator of education, one of my goals is to infuse love and the thirst for knowledge into every child. I feel an educator should be passionate, reliable, and dedicated to working with every child. In a technologically driven society, it is crucial to guide children as they navigate the knowledge of the world and help each discern fact from opinion. Further, students require an advocate who is sensitive to their needs. As an educator, I will continue to learn each day through my students and push to understand more about myself and the world through the lens of education.
